The Journey of a Young Horse

We recently received an email from a client who Ben started a young horse for a month ago. It’s these kind of emails and feedback that make it all worth while for us!

It’s inspiring to hear about other peoples journeys with their horses and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to play our part in that journey!

We wanted to share this email with you…

“I am now in my late 60’s & shortly after we bred our filly, Rose, now 2.5 years old, I suffered some medical issues and was concerned that my desire to start Rose myself may not be in her best interests, fearing that I may inhibit her due to my confidence levels and fitness being at an all-time low.

My husband saw a flyer advertising Ben Skerrett was going to do a demonstration followed by a clinic & individual lessons if required in our part of Victoria end of April, 2016.  I Googled Ben & found that we had similar backgrounds in relation to Natural Horsemanship experience and he had excellent background experience in starting young horses.  For this reason we decided to ask Ben to visit our property in the hope that he might be prepared to put those very important first rides on Rose.

Ben came & I had 5 sessions with him.  4 of them he ground schooled & started Rose under saddle & the 5th session he guided me in my first ridden session with Rose.  It was incredible!  She has plenty of attitude which would have locked me up had Ben not shown me during his time in the saddle just how to handle her.  I was guided by Ben and believed that I understood what was required of me to progress Rose’s training with confidence in myself and my ability to build on the confidence that Ben had instilled in her. There was no bucking or drama and Rose moves forward with confidence and balance. Ben has helped me to establish a solid foundation on which to build.  He is gentle, kind & ever patient with both horse and rider.  He taught me the importance of focus – for me and Rose.  To feel and reward the slightest try but not to accept no try!  To persevere. To look for the right “attitude” from my horse and to ensure that I get it before moving on.  So very much more ……………

My husband and I are still incredulous just thinking about how much Ben achieved in such a short time.  Not just with Rose, but me too.  We both feel that Ben was our “special gift” to Rose.  What a wonderful life she has had and Ben has started Rose & I on our journey together, partners in our chosen equine activities, whatever they may be.

God Bless you Ben & Thank you from the 3 of us!
