ABOUT BEN

Ben was born in 1985 on a farm east of Tamworth. At a very young age, Ben learnt to ride and handle horses on his father’s 1200-acre farm and has always shown a genuine love for horses. At the age of six, Ben regularly competed in Pony Club Gymkhanas and at age 10 he competed in his first camp draft. After finishing high school, Ben went to work on his father’s, Jackaroo & JillarooSchool called ‘Leconfield’, where his love for Natural Horsemanship evolved, as he was exposed to over 40 different horses to work with on a regular basis.

Working as assistant manager at ‘Leconfield’, he learnt all about managing horses and people. He would manage up to 20 beginner to advanced riders on the ground and while riding. Ben would instruct them in Natural Horsemanship, take them on trail rides and drafting cattle and sheep. He also owned and started his first young horse, while working on the farm. During this time he trained and competed successfully in Polo, becoming a strong competitor in the NSW Polo scene. After working at ‘Leconfield’, Ben completed his Natural Horsemanship studies with Melanie Fleming, 4* Parelli Professional and Steve Byrnes, 4* Parelli instructor and colt starter. It was here, that he learnt Horsemanship as an art form and gained more knowledge about the finer points on starting young horses, working with foals, foundation training, refinement and training performance horses, as well as teaching people.

In 2006, after completing his Parelli Natural Horsemanship levels, Ben then moved to the Sunshine Coast where, he and his wife Linda, started up a successful business, called BLS Horsemanship, re-educating horses and people. He has started hundreds of young horses and worked with many difficult horses gaining the necessary experience to help others with their horse problems. Ben has worked with horses of all breeds and types from Racehorses and Warmbloods to Quarter horses and even Miniatures. He also conductsregular courses/clinics and events around Australia, mostly in NSW and QLD, where he helps people learn more about how to understand and interpret horse behaviour. He is renowned for his Horsemanship skills and has saved many dysfunctional horse human relationships over the years.

He has studied various disciplines including reining, cutting and dressage.

Ben is dedicated to empowering people, so they can help their horses while being safe and having fun. He continues to learn and develop his Horsemanship skills every day.

Ben is also an Eponaquest instructor. Through the Eponaquest apprenticeship he became qualified as an Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning (EFL) instructor, and a Riding Focused Instructor (RFI). Ben also has a diploma in counselling from The National Education Academy.

In 2014 Ben founded his second business, Skerrett Equine, which combines his unique passions for helping people reach their full potential and horses. Skerrett Equine focuses on Empowering People Through Horses.

ABOUT LINDA

Linda was born in 1983, in Hamburg Germany. She started riding when she was 7 years old. She rode in riding schools until her teens. She then went onto leasing ponies. During this time she started competing in low level dressage and show jumping. In her early twenties, Linda was given the opportunity to train and ride a Spanish stallion. Through him she gainedknowledge about high level dressage and Spanish riding.

In 2006 Linda moved to the Sunshine Coast, where she and her husband Ben, started up a successful business, called BLS Horsemanship, re-educating horses and people.

Since then, Linda has started and worked with numerous horses and ponies. She has been instructing people who are interested in building a great relationship with their horse, and improving their confidence while on the ground or riding. She also taught in Pony Club for several years.
